U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh supported Empowering Youth through Sports Project 3 - Cambodia

2 September 2022

Supported by the U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh, ASA Foundation recently launched the third Empowering Youth through Sports program for teachers and sports coaches living across Cambodia. The nationwide Sport for Development initiative, which was held at the Cambodian Children's Fund NCA campus in Phnom Penh, focused on 10 male and female adult trainer participants who were trained, educated, and empowered on crucial human rights, transparency, and women's empowerment topics by utilizing the power of sports for positive social change. While ASAF provides weekly mentorship along with monitoring and evaluation activities, the trainers will now transfer their knowledge to their youth groups on a long-term, sustainable basis. The program will reach out to over 500 vulnerable male and female students with a higher percentage of girls participating.

It is fantastic to resume the in-person Sport for Development training activities! Prior to the pandemic, the Empowering Youth through Sports program, which had focused on Health, Hygiene, Life Skills and Gender Equality topics, had built the capacity of teacher and student groups from NGO and public schools across Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville.

And we are now looking forward to hosting an official U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh project launch and showcase event over the next 3 months.
