Ground breaking Football for Good Festival promotes Gender Equality and Women Empowerment across Garut, Indonesia!

20 October 2022

Supported by the UEFA Foundation for children, Common Goal, FedEx, and the local Ministry of Youth & Sports (DISPORA), ASA Foundation recently held a Football for Good festival for 80 boys and 80 girls from local middle schools across Garut, West Java, Indonesia to promote UN SDGs 3, 4, 5 and 10.

The 2 day event, which was held at the newly constructed UEFA Foundation for children, Common Goal and FedEx football field in Garut City, specifically focused on developing important life skills while promoting gender equality and women empowerment.

By introducing special fair play rules to the tournament matches, together with gender mixed life skills-based warming up and cooling down drills, the football activities educated and empowered the youth beneficiaries while improving their mental health and well-being together with social cohesiveness.

Furthermore, the festival turned out to be Garut's first-ever girls football competition. Therefore, in order to further promote gender equality and women's empowerment, we will use the event as a catalyst to encourage female participation in sports and football throughout the regency!
