Girl Empowerment Academy: Building Confidence and Leadership Through Basketball

31 January 2026

Sport has the power to change lives. Through the Girl Empowerment Academy, ASA Foundation is creating a safe and inspiring space where young girls can grow, learn, and discover their potential both on and off the basketball court.

Supported by Beyond Sport and Sun Life Indonesia, this nine-month program, launched in January 2026, brings together 40 girls under the age of 18 who share a passion for basketball and a desire to build confidence in themselves.

Every Saturday, the girls gather at Lapangan Diana Beji in Depok for training sessions led by dedicated ASA Foundation female master coaches, Sulli and Stella. But the academy is about much more than learning how to shoot, pass, or dribble. It is about empowering young women to believe in their abilities and support one another as a team.

Through structured basketball activities inspired by the Hoops + Health program, participants learn valuable lessons about healthy living, teamwork, and resilience. The program combines physical training with discussions and interactive games that introduce topics such as nutrition, hydration, mental wellbeing, and the importance of staying active.

On the court, the girls challenge themselves through drills, team games, and scrimmages. Off the court, they learn how to take care of their bodies, support their teammates, and build positive habits that can shape their futures.

Perhaps most importantly, the Girl Empowerment Academy creates a community where girls feel heard, supported, and empowered. Through teamwork and shared experiences, participants develop confidence, leadership, and the courage to express themselves.

As the program continues throughout the year, the academy hopes to inspire these young athletes to carry the lessons they learn far beyond the basketball court into their schools, families, and communities.

Because when girls are given the opportunity to play, learn, and lead, they gain more than just skills in sport they gain the confidence to shape their own futures.
