Breaking Barriers: Advancing Disability Inclusion Through Sport
Inclusion in sport begins with understanding the diverse needs, abilities, and experiences of every child.
As part of the Goals for Good initiative, the AFC Dream Asia Foundation and ASA Foundation conducted a school visit at SLBN 1 Jakarta, focusing on disability inclusion and the importance of creating accessible and meaningful opportunities for children with disabilities to participate in sport.
During the visit, 14 students, including 4 girls, were observed, providing an opportunity to better understand students' participation, individual abilities, and the considerations needed to support inclusive sporting activities.
The observation emphasized the importance of recognizing that every child experiences and engages with sport differently. Creating an inclusive environment requires more than simply providing access. It means adapting activities, understanding individual needs, and ensuring that every student has the opportunity to participate with confidence and dignity.
Through Goals for Good, we are committed to advancing disability inclusion by promoting awareness, encouraging inclusive approaches to football, and supporting learning environments where differences are recognized as strengths rather than barriers.
Our vision extends beyond the football field. We believe that when children with disabilities are given meaningful opportunities to participate, sport can help strengthen their confidence, encourage social connections, and foster a greater sense of belonging.
Every observation, every interaction, and every step toward accessibility contributes to building a sporting environment that is more inclusive and equitable.
Because true inclusion is not just about being present. It is about being seen, valued, and given the opportunity to participate. ?????
